Credit Card Debt Relief Solution:  Consolidating Debts

Will This Work For You?

If you have numerous credit cards, each carrying a high balance and a high interest rate, you might consider applying for a debt consolidation loan.  By consolidating all of your credit cards and any other outstanding debts into one loan, you can pay off all of your financial obligations and make only one monthly payment to the lender.  Many financial experts consider a debt consolidation loan to be a viable solution for most people.

One Monthly Payment/One Interest Rate

If your credit score is good, you should be able to negotiate a better interest rate than what you a paying on your credit cards and other debts.  This will give you immediate relief by lowering your monthly payments and extending you additional time for repayment while releasing you from the uncertainty of the fluxuating interest rates charged by some credit card companies.

Being unable to pay your financial obligations is stressful, so be certain that debt consolidation is right for you.  Ask for quotes from several companies and compare their interest rates and terms carefully to determine how much you can actually save with a consolidation loan.  Remember that an unsecured loan will have much higher interest rates and less favorable terms than a secured loan.

A consolidation loan will do you no good if you pay off your credit cards and then immediately begin using them again.  You should choose the credit card with the best terms and interest rate and keep that one for emergencies and close out all other accounts.  Otherwise, you will eventually be once more paying off high interest credit cards as well as trying to pay off your debt reconsolidation loan.

A consolidation loan as a means of credit card debt relief will only offer temporary help.  You must work to get yourself out of the habit of overspending.  Give yourself an allowance and use this money to pay for your day-to-day expenses.  Once it is used up, you will have to wait for your next payday to purchase anything else.
